In 1986, when the temple moved to its present location, Bhante bought one lotus root from an aquatic nursery in Brookshire. After the temple’s dog destroyed it, and a second got damaged in a storm, he kept trying, and made the gardens of Buu Mon what they are today.
For the future of Buu Mon Temple, Bhante would like to see it always be ready to serve the people. Especially, those immigrants and refugees from Vietnam who have lost their homeland and need spiritual support. At the same time, he says, the Buddha’s message of universal tolerance and nonviolence is applicable to all communities, and we want to continue to deliver the Buddha’s message to everyone.
